Because so many yoga teacher training programs put such a huge emphasis on asana, many teachers aren't even aware of the depths these practices can take you as a teacher, a guide, and a mentor.
Many who have "studied" the Yoga Sutras have landed on the 8-limbed path- a beautiful representation of the sort of process that one can go through to achieve some level of removal of suffering..
But what often gets missed are the other incredible concepts present in this (and other texts). We can learn so much about our own identity, behavior, ego, how we show up in the world, how the world effects our perception of everything- if we dig deeper.
Studying this information allows for such more dynamic scope as a teacher. You can get pulled into the world of coaching through the lens of yogic psychology. You can study these texts along with great modern teachers like Gabor Mate and Bessel Van der Kolk to create programming to help your students find balance and ease from trauma and a dis-regulated nervous system.
These teachings paired with modern understanding give teachers the real world tools they need to be great teachers. Period. And provide the spaces for healing that our world so desperately needs.
