The difference between knowledge and wisdom

Where people get tripped up in sharing.

When it comes to sharing knowledge in the fields of yoga, wellness, mindfulness, or health, many people feel held back by the belief that they need to be an expert before contributing. They think they must read all the books, complete every training, or hold advanced degrees to have something valuable to offer. But there’s a key distinction between knowledge and wisdom that’s often overlooked.

Knowledge comes from study—it’s the facts, theories, and skills we gain from formal education or training. Wisdom, on the other hand, is lived experience. It’s the understanding that comes from navigating challenges, learning from personal mistakes, and finding meaning through life itself. While knowledge can provide a solid foundation, wisdom allows us to connect on a deeper, more personal level with others. When people are searching for guidance or learning opportunities, they often gravitate towards those who have walked the same path and can offer insights from their own experiences.

Many of the most impactful teachings come not from those who have read the most books, but from those who have lived and learned. When you share your unique story, your struggles, and your lessons, you offer a kind of wisdom that resonates deeply with others. Your voice can be a bridge, helping others feel seen and understood. Don’t let the pressure of being an "expert" hold you back—your wisdom is valuable, and your lived experience is more than enough to inspire and teach others.

About what we are looking for

Articles

Short articles about your favorite subject area, something you love to teach, one that you would like to explore more deeply as a practitioner, or something you have wisdom around.

Articles, how-to-guides, stories, etc. can be in any area of wellness as long as it can be targeted to one of the audiences that we serve.

Things to think about:

  • Can this help studio owners, teachers or facilitators, or wellness seekers (know what audience you are writing to)
  • Think beyond "how to meditate" or "how to do a pose" and instead think of things like "Using Mindfulness Saved my Health as an Educator", "Using Meditation in Times of a Broken Heart", "The 90's Kid Guide to Healing your Relationship with Food"
